Upset Alert in Round 2

Round 2 has heated up big time with two of the four matches being very close. Top seed Grace Kelly is pulling away from Teresa Wright by the count of 25-12. This match was relatively close on day one. That same score is also featured in my girl Carole Lombard's match against 3rd seed Ingrid Bergman. So it looks like Carole and Teresa won't be moving on to the next round. Now as far as the other two matches are concerned..whoa nellie, it's coming down to the wire. 10th seed Eva Marie Saint is giving 2nd seed and beloved favorite Joan Fontaine all she can handle. Joan currently leads 20-18 and this match has been close every single step of the way. If Eva could stage a little rally this would be a huge upset. And in the final match, Janet Leigh leads Kim Novak 21-16, with Novak making a little surge as she was down by as many as 8 votes at one point. So we have two more days until this thrilling round is complete, please spread the word and let's make this an exciting finish.
Eva is hanging in there.....giving Joan Fontaine a run for her money!

Round 2 update

After a full day of voting, the second round is yielding more closer matches. Well three of the four are. My girl Carole is getting killed by Ingrid Bergman 19-11. Top seed Grace Kelly is slowly pulling away from upstart Teresa Wright 18-11. 4th seed Kim Novak is losing to 5th seed Janet Leigh 17-11 which is kind of surprising. Her Vertigo is widely regarded as Hitch's masterpiece. And Joan Fontaine is getting all she can handle from Eva Marie Saint 16-12. Matches continue through Friday evening. If you haven't voted yet, please do so.

Not too many upsets as the first round of The Favorite Hitchcock Leading Lady Tourney wraps up

First round of the Favorite Alfred Hitchcock Leading Lady Tourney is in the books and there was just two upsets as all the other top seeds won their respective matches. Grace Kelly, who is seeded number 1, rolled to an easy 34-5 victory over last seed Tallulah Bankhead. 2nd seed Joan Fontaine blew out 15th seed Sylvia Sidney 35-4. 3rd seed Ingrid Bergman had the biggest margin of victory with a 35-3 thrashing of Ruth Roman, garnering 92% of the votes. 4th seed Kim Novak easily dispatched 13th seed Doris Day 29-12 (Que Sera, Sera). In the battle of the Crane sisters from the Psycho film, Janet Leigh defeated Vera Miles 30-9. The first upset occurred when 6th seed Tippi Hedren got taken down by 11th seed Carole Lombard 27-14, in what was the most voted match in the first round. Much love to my fave actress of all time Carole as she tries to win a tourney for the first time. Being all so close in previous classic movie actresses tournaments. The other upset was between 7th seed Madeleine Carroll and 10th seed Eva Marie Saint. It was Saint who edged Carroll 22-17. And the final match was between 8th seed Teresa Wright who pulled away from 9th seed Margaret Lockwood 25-14 after the match was very close early on. Congrats to all the actresses who now move on to round two which begins Sunday evening. And thanks to all those who voted. Below are pics of all the winning actresses!

All Good Things presents Cinematic World Tour 2012 Blogathon

Looks like Cary and Eva are all set...

Everybody has taken a vacation at one time or another. Traveling from your hometown to another state or even country. By car, train or plane, enjoying the sights and making new friends along the way. Of course there are always some hiccups along the way, such as lost luggage, snooty hotel clerks, flight delays, etc. But the overall experience makes up for all that. So I decided to do a blogathon based solely on that. Taking a page from TCM's recent Around the World with Oscar, I am inviting all my friends to plan a fantasy summer vacation using classic movies. Choose a particular destination, like New York or England, and write about movies that use those places as their location. Say you plan to visit Florida, would you stay at the hotel in Key Largo or Miami Beach (Some Like It Hot)? Or maybe Aunt Elizabeth could put you up at her nice home in Connecticut (Bringing Up Baby). Or visit the scenic Big Sur (The Sandpiper). Or travel abroad to England, France or Australia. You can choose as many places as you want, just depends on how much traveling you plan on doing. Load them up with plenty of pics and let us know where you stayed at, and what was on your itinerary. Be as creative as possible. And unlike most blogathons, which usually last a weekend or a week, this one will last all summer long. So your tickets will be open-ended. Beginning Memorial Day on Monday, May 28th and running through Labor Day on Monday, September 3rd. So you can post as many times over this summer. And I hope to have this as a recurring series each and every summer. I will be thinking of where I will take my vacation this year. I actually think we may get to visit New York for real with a friend, so I may add that destination to my cinematic post. And if we don't make the trip, then I will have the movies set in New York to rave about. Just leave a comment here on this post or email me if you wish to join in on the fun. Oh and have your passport and cameras ready! I will post more details before everyone starts taking their vacations. Giving you plenty of time to decide the places you want to visit. And I won't restrict it just to classic films. Some modern films and their locations are gladly welcomed!
Hopefully we won't be engaged in a 'Great Race' while traveling...
come to think of it, that might be fun

REAR WINDOW vs NORTH BY NORTHWEST for favorite HItchcock Film

It has finally come down to the final two films...Rear Window takes on North By Northwest for favorite Alfred Hithcock film on All Good Things. Rear Window took down The Lady Vanishes 10-3 while North By Northwest beat Rebecca 11-3. Both films are number 2 seeds that won their eras. Rear Window won the 50's era while North By Northwest, which had to compete in the 60's due to a shortage of films available by Hitch won that era. This match would have happened in the 50's final match most likely between these two loved films. So now we finally get to find out which one is more loved. Well here on All Good Things anyway. The match begins immediately and will run thru Sunday 5 pm EST. Good luck to both films. And thanks to everyone that voted during this tournament. And this will be my last tournament for this year. But I will be back with an expanded favorite classic actress tournament in March. Instead of 64 women competing, there will be 132. Oh my.

Classic Movie Actress Tournament (1950's) Era Round 2 Update

Audrey is all smiles after day 1 of her match with Eva Marie Saint

Three of the four matches are tied after day 1. But Audrey Hepburn is cruising past Eva Marie Saint at 29-20. Grace Kelly and Ava Gardner are tied at 22 votes. That's the same tally for Debbie Reynolds and Gloria Grahame. And the fourth match between Liz Taylor and Susan Hayward is deadlocked at 23 votes. So day 2 should be very interesting. Wouldn't it be something if Debbie and Liz both won their matches to set up a face off between them? I'm sure everyone knows of the history between these rivals. Not just in acting but because of Liz having an affair with Debbie's husband Eddie Fisher, who she would eventually marry. But regardless who wins, it should make for an exciting day.
