Irene Dunne defeats Vivien Leigh and becomes the Favorite Classic Movie Actress of ALL GOOD THINGS

Irene Dunne, or as my friend Renata calls her, Dunnie defeated Scarlett O'Hara herself, Vivien Leigh 55-42 to become the favorite actress of All Good Things. It was a wild tournament and Dunnie proved to be very resilent. She took down some very popular actresses en route to her victory. And what made this victory even more impressive was that Irene was seeded 10th when this tournament began. In the silent/30's era bracket, she defeated Clara Bow, Barbara Stanwyck, Claudette Colbert and even my girl Carole Lombard in that era's final match. That match had a little controversy as the poll allowed fans to vote more than once and caused Carole to surge ahead of Irene in the matter of minutes after being down by a considerable margin. So the poll had to be re-started and Dunnie won out 58-43 as the most votes of the entire tournament was logged during this match. I felt bad that Carole lost but being how Irene is my second favorite actress, I now had her to pull for. Then Irene had to wait on the other final four finalists and she would face Princess Grace Kelly in the semi-final and won that match 39-33 which turned out to be a thriller. And now in the championship match Dunnie took on Vivien Leigh, who had an equally impressive run in this tournament, knocking off Ann Sheridan, Lauren Bacall, Bette Davis, Ingrid Bergman and Natalie Wood. Dunnie led for most of the match and pulled away during the last day to post an impressive win. So congratulations to Irene Dunne as she becomes All Good Things Favorite Actress of all time. I know that will make all Irene fans happy and three girls named Renata, Janine, and Desiree positively crazy with joy. Thanks to everyone for making this tournament a huge success. And don't forget the men will have their own tourney in June.

  2. Bravo, Irene! Five Oscar nominations for Best Actress and no wins - it's a crime. A wonderfully gifted actress who excelled at comedy ("The Awful Truth," a masterpiece) as well as drama ("I Remember Mama"), melodrama ("Pennies Serenade") and everything in between.
