Classic Movie Actor Tournament: Silent/30's Era Round 1 Results

The first round of the silent/30's era bracket of the Classic Movie Actor Tournament has concluded and they quite a bit of top seeded actors losing out. But first let's talk about the ones who cruised to victory like expected. Top seed Clark Cable thrashed Douglas Fairbanks Jr. 31-10. Second seeded Charlie Chaplin edged out 15th seeded Fredric March, 23-17. 7th seed Errol Flynn had little trouble with 10th seed Paul Muni, 33-7. And 6th seed William Powell blew out 11th seed George Brent, 38-2 in the round's most lopsided victory. Now onto the upsets. 9th seed Buster Keaton had a mild upset of 8th seed John Gilbert 28-10. 4th seed Douglas Fairbanks Sr got manhandled by 13th seed Fred Astaire 29-11. 5th seed Rudolph Valentino was ripped by 12th seed James Cagney 34-7. And 14th seed Ronald Colman outlasted 3rd seed John Barrymore 24-15. So the tournament is wide open now. Here are the full results:

  1. As you know, I am on vacation (until next Wednesday), but I told you I intended to participate in this. (Talk about a dedicated follower...right?)

    I love George Brent, so I am heartbroken by his horrible loss!!! Only one other person walks to the same drummer I do on that one!! Also, I am a huge Cagney fan...hope he takes this whole bracket.

  2. I just can't get over the John BarrymoreRonald Coleman result..

    And poor George Brent! Seems that he never had a chance.. But William Powell is great!
