Round Two Final Results

Wow! Another week has ended and we had some great matches once again.

SILENT/30'S ERA
It wasn't easy but Carole moves on to the next round after slipping by Jean Arthur

CAROLE LOMBARD def JEAN ARTHUR 80-78
MYRNA LOY def JEAN HARLOW 78-58
GINGER ROGERS def HATTIE MCDANIEL 85-42
IRENE DUNNE def JEANETTE MACDONALD 111-18

First off, you are reading that last match final score right. Defending champion Irene Dunne put 111 on Jeanette MacDonald. Which will set her up for a match with Ginger Rogers, who should give her a much tougher fight. Jean Harlow tried to rally on Myrna Loy and cut the lead from 35 to 20 but just had to big of a gap to overcome. And my girl Carole had a back and forth match with Jean Arthur which saw her finally come away with a hard fought win. Yes! Their match generated a total of 158 votes, the most so far for any match.

40'S ERA
Lucy gets by Eve in a really close match

ROSALIND RUSSELL def JANE WYMAN 79-74
LUCILLE BALL def EVE ARDEN 68-66
JUDY GARLAND def BETTY GRABLE 58-54
RITA HAYWORTH def ANN MILLER 59-40

There were some really close matches here. At one point it looked like both Rosalind Russell and Lucille Ball were gonna lose their matches. But they held on to post victories. Judy Garland got a lot more than she expected from Betty Grable but still manage to eke out a win. Rita Hayworth had little trouble with Ann Miller.

50'S ERA
Marilyn can breathe a sigh of relief now that she got past the feisty Thelma Ritter

JANET LEIGH def JUDY HOLLIDAY 63-30
MARILYN MONROE def THELMA RITTER 51-48
DORIS DAY def VERA-ELLEN 67-31
DEBBIE REYNOLDS def CYD CHARISSE 57-40

Marilyn Monroe had to hold off the feisty Thelma Ritter but the other three matches were easy wins for the top seeds. Especially Doris Day who beat Vera-Ellen by 36 votes.

60'S ERA
Ann-Margret continues to dance her way through the tourney

NATALIE WOOD def HAYLEY MILLS 57-29
JANE FONDA def SANDRA DEE 43-39
JULIE ANDREWS def SHIRLEY JONES 44-41
ANN-MARGRET def SHIRLEY MACLAINE 45-41

Three of the four matches were really close. And we had one upset. 3rd seed Ann-Margret sent Shirley MacLaine home early with a 4 point win. MacLaine made it to the sweet sixteen round last year but could not overtake Ann. Another Shirley made an exit as well. Shirley Jones gave top seed Julie Andrews all she could handle but still fell short by a few votes. Jane Fonda slipped by Sandra Dee and overall top seed Natalie Wood cruised to another victory, this time crushing Hayley Mills. Looks like Natalie wants a return trip to the Final Four.
