FUNNY LADIES/SINGERS AND DANCERS DAY THREE FINAL RESULTS

The matches are complete for the funny ladies/singers and dancers categories. Here are the breakdowns of the matches in all the eras. Congratulations to all the women that competed and those that are moving on to round two.

THE SILENT/30'S ERA

Carole is happy she won...but also knows Irene won as well

Wasn't it just the other day when Barbara Stanywck set a record for most votes in a single match. Well defending champion Irene Dunne does her one better as she crushed Luise Rainier 83-8. For those wondering would Irene kind of sit back and not really compete since she won this last year, think again. My girl Carole rung up 80 votes in defeating her My Man Godfrey co-star by a wide margin. The only upset occurred when 7th seed Hattie McDaniel beat  2nd seed Shirley Temple 51-41. And a close match between Jeanette MacDonald and Mae West saw Jeanette edge Mae by 7 votes.

CAROLE LOMBARD def GAIL PATRICK 80-16
MYRNA LOY def MARGARET DUMONT 78-13
JEAN HARLOW def MARIE DRESSLER 68-19
JEAN ARTHUR def MARGARET SULLAVAN 72-18
IRENE DUNNE def LUISE RAINER 83-8
HATTIE MCDANIEL def SHIRLEY TEMPLE 51-41
GINGER ROGERS def JOAN BLONDELL 58-30
JEANETTE MACDONALD def MAE WEST 49-42

THE 40'S ERA

Jane Wyman relaxing after a well earned victory

No surprises here as all the top seeds won. The closest match was the one between Jane Wyman and Donna Reed, which changed leads many times over the three days. I was surprised that Rita Hayworth blew the doors off of Hedy Lamarr. I thought that would have been a much closer match. Lucille Ball and Maureen O'Hara, who both were not part of last year's tourney had a battle of the redheads, which saw Lucy come out on top.

ROSALIND RUSSELL def JEANNE CRAIN 58-17
JANE WYMAN def DONNA REED 47-43
LUCILLE BALL def MAUREEN O'HAR 53-37
EVE ARDEN def TERESA WRIGHT 35-27
JUDY GARLAND def MARGARET O'BRIEN 57-12
BETTY GRABLE def JUNE ALLYSON 39-25
RITA HAYWORTH def HEDY LAMARR 48-19
ANN MILLER def VIRIGINA MAYO 34-24

THE 50'S ERA
Marilyn had some first round jitters remembering what happened last year, but she need
not worry as she rolled to her first ever tourney victory

Marilyn Monroe, who got bounced last year in the first round by Gloria Grahame, was not about to let that happened again. MM rolled over Joanne Woodward by 40 points, to be the most dominant victory in this era. Top seed Doris Day had little trouble with Jane Russell. I think Doris will like competing in the 50's era. Last year she was in the 60's. Newcomers to the tourney, Vera-Ellen,, Judy Holliday and Thelma Ritter all scored victories to move on to the second round.

DORIS DAY def JANE RUSSELL 47-22
VERA-ELLEN def LESLIE CARON 32-27
DEBBIE REYNOLDS def JANE POWELL 40-21
CYD CHARISSE def DOROTHY DANDRIDGE 46-14
JUDY HOLLIDAY def PIER ANGELI 46-10
JANET LEIGH def JAYNE MANSFIELD 49-13
MARILYN MONROE def JOANNE WOODWARD 53-13
THELMA RITTER def EVA MARIE SAINT 45-17

THE 60'S ERA
Oh yeah...a little celebratory dance is needed!

No real drama here as all the top seeds won with the closest match being between the two sex icons of the 60's, Ann-Margret and Raquel Welch. Ann edged out Raquel by 6 votes. Pretty close. Natalie Wood, a final four finalist last year had the biggest margin of victory in this era by crushing Stella Stevens by 43 votes. Ouch!

JULIE ANDREWS def JEANNE MOREAU 53-12
SHIRLEY JONES def RITA MORENO 39-23
SHIRLEY MACLAINE def EDIE ADAMS 49-16
ANN-MARGRET def RAQUEL WELCH 33-27
NATALIE WOOD def STELLA STEVENS 52-9
HAYLEY MILLS def TUESDAY WELD 35-22
JANE FONDA def PATTY DUKE 41-16
SANDRA DEE def GLYNIS JOHNS 35-23

Round 2 will begin Monday morning with another exciting week of matches. Please come by to vote on all the four eras.

  1. Thrilled about Hattie's win (it was close there for awhile), though my heart weeps for Jane Russell and Tuesday. Can't wait for the next round!
