Proving to be worthy of their top rankings, a pair of number 1 and 2 seeds have now started their matches in the 50's era bracket. No. 1 Audrey Hepburn takes on No.2 Doris Day while No. 1 Grace Kelly takes on no. 2 Ava Gardner. Their rankings are for their respective categories in this era.
