The Morning Movie: ROME ADVENTURE (1962)

 Suzanne and Troy embark on a Rome Adventure

Thanks to the recent cinematic world tour post by Whistlingypsy over as Distant Voices and Flickering Shadows, I started watching Rome Adventure. About 45 minutes in, I'm loving it. It's about a young librarian named Prudence (a stunning debut by Suzanne Pleshette) who works at a stuffy college for women. She gets into trouble for giving one of the students a particular book, which the board deems too racy. Prudence resigns and heads to Italy to start living life. She meets Rossano Brazzi on the boat ride over. Later on she will meet Troy Donahue. I got to the part where Prudence is looking for work and meets The American Bookshop owner Daisy (wonderfully played by Constance Ford...who reminds me of a certain friend of mine named Irene). I had to cut it off as I had to leave for work but will finish this wonderful film when I return. And expect a full review once I do. Thanks again Whistlingypsy!

Two new inductees for my Hall of Fame: Eve Arden and Joan Crawford

A new month means two more inductees for my Hall of Fame. Drum roll please...

Well color me surprised! I'm in the Hall of Fame!

Give a warm welcome to Joan Crawford and Eve Arden. You may ask how did these two outstanding women get in. Well because both are multiple Montie award winners. Both have won 2 supporting actresses awards. Joan earned two Monties for Grand Hotel (1932) and The Women (1939), while Eve won two Monties for Stage Door (1937) and Mildred Pierce (1945) which paired her ironically enough with Joan.

My Favorite Things I love about Jean Arthur

A new month means a new classic movie goddess. And it's Jean Arthur. And here is my favorite things that I love about her.

1. One of my favorite screwball comediennes. She starred in some of the best of the screwball genre like Easy Living (1937), The Devil and Miss Jones (1941), The More The Merrier (1943) and Too Many Husbands (1940).


2. For my money, she was the best actress to appear in the films of Frank Capra in You Can't Take It With You (1938) and Mr. Smith Goes To Washington (1939).


3. That wonderful, endearing voice of hers.


4. Her versatility...comedies, dramas, westerns...she was adept in everything she did.

5. A class act all the way.

6. Simply beautiful!

Just wanted to let everyone know that Whistlingypsy of Distant Voices and Flickering Shadows has just wrote her contribution piece to the Cinematic World Tour blogathon. Her destination is Rome and the film she chose is Rome Adventure (1962) starring Suzanne Pleshette, Angie Dickinson and Troy Donahue. And I think it is a wonderful post. She really outdid herself with it. I had mentioned to her that I recorded this film last summer on TCM and that it promptly has sat unwatched in my movie cabinet. My Hollywood Crushes #2 - Natalie Wood

I probably need to expound a little on my new series, Hollywood Crushes. Around 12 or 13 I began watching lots and lots of TV, maybe a little younger. And would watch any and everything. Movies, tv shows, etc. And I was at the age where it didn't take too much for me to become infatuated with someone. It's like having a crush on your teacher. Well during my teen years I had tons of crushes on actresses. The first post was on Cindy Williams. And you will note that a lot of my crushes will come from the period of late 60's thru early 80's. As lots of series from the 60's and 70's were being shown in reruns and movies were popping up on cable channels. And these crushes went on for awhile as being without a girlfriend, I could spend hours daydreaming about anyone of these particular actresses. Now with that being said, on to the next crush of mine.

Miss Natalie Wood. During this time period, the cable channel WTBS, which was started by Ted Turner, who would later give birth to TCM, would air tons of classic movies. Which made sense since Mr. Turner bought the entire MGM library of films as well as some other studios. Well I remember seeing Natalie in several 60's era movies like The Great Race, Sex and the Single Girl and This Property Is Condemned. It was pretty much love at first sight. Now Natalie was a solid actress in her own right but at the time I was just imaging her as the girl on my arm. I would dream going somewhere and introducing her like..yeah this is my date, Natalie. Of course as I got older, I realized how talented she was as an actress and began watching as many movies of hers as I could. Still she is one of my first Hollywood crushes.
