1. What made you start blogging?

2. Who are your favorite classic film stars? Name as many as you want

Jackie: My favorite classic male stars are Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, William Holden, Gregory Peck, Paul Newman, Gene Kelly, Gary Cooper. Joel McCrea, Jack Lemmon, William Powell, David Niven Howard Keel. My favorite classic female stars are Irene Dunne, Katharine Hepburn,  Audrey Hepburn, Judy Garland, Deborah Kerr, Ingrid Bergman, Loretta Young, Maureen O'Hara, Debbie Reynolds, Mryna Loy, Doris Day, Kathryn Grayson.

 3. What are some of your favorite films?

Jackie: I love  My Fair Lady, Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, Singing in the Rain, It's a Wonderful Life, The Bishop's Wife, Friendly Persuasion, Show Boat, The Philadelphia Story, Harvey, How the West Was Won, Roman Holiday, Born Yesterday, Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation.

Me: I think you might be my first guest to have Friendly Persuasion on their list.

4. Describe your first classic movie experience. Like where and when..at a cinema, on TV, etc..

Jackie: I think my first classic movie experience had been watching the Wizard of Oz on TV. For years when I was little we would come in on the movie after it had turned to color. We were surprised when we first saw the tornado and the black and white part. I would play Wizard of Oz traveling the yellow brick road around my yard and pretend to meet the scarecrow, tinman, lion, good witch, and bad witch. I had a stuffed Pluto dog that I carried in a basket. And I would sing: "We're off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz". LOL

Me: The Wizard of Oz seems to be a lot of people's first classic movie experience. That and GWTW.

5. What films upon first viewing did you not like, then later on when re-watching them, loved it.

6. Describe the perfect way for you to watch a classic film.

 I love watching a classic movie with my husband in our travel trailer. We have a candlelight dinner first, then sit  close together on the couch, holding hands and watch a romantic movie.

7. How many friends, family member or co-workers share your love of classic films?

 Don't know for sure. Many.

8. What is your favorite time period: the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's or 60's?

Jackie: I love the 40's and the 50's. Too hard to choose from. But if I have to choose, I would say the 50's: An American in Paris, Roman Holiday, Love Is a Many Splendor Thing, Sabrina, An Affair to Remember, North by Northwest, Picnic, Singing in the Rain, Born Yesterday, Sunset Blvd.,To Catch a Thief, The African Queen. The list just keeps going...lol

Me:That's a pretty good era for films...can't argue with you on that

9. What are some of your favorite film quotes?

 1.  "When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are."Pinocchio.  2. "Good Morning. Good Morning to You".  Kathy sings in "Singing in the Rain".  3.  Ilsa says, "Play it Sam. Play As Time Goes By" "Casablanca"   4.. "Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore." Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz".

"I'd think of someway to get him back. Afterall tomorrow is another day." 5. Rose says in The African Queen, "Nature. Mr. Allnut, is what we are put on this world to rise above." 6. Scarlett in Gone With the Wind. 7. Zo Zo in "It's a Wonderful Life". "Look Daddy. Every time you hear a bell rings, an angel gets it's wings." 8. From "How the West Was Won" Lionus Rawlings says,"Ma'am, seems you've been kissed before." Eve Prescott says,"Ain't been kissed permanent before." lol

10. What classic films have you yet to see for one reason or another.

 Jackie: I haven't seen Gaslight, A Streetcar Named Desire.

Me:

I haven't seen Gaslight either...but I have seen Desire..I recommend you catching it the next time TCM plays it.

11. What is your favorite genre?

 Jackie: My favorite genre has to be Musicals. I love music. Show Boat, My Fair Lady, The Wizard of Oz, Singing in the Rain, Oklahoma, Easter Parade, Music Man, An American in Paris, Royal Wedding, A Star is Born, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Top Hat,  are just a few that I like.

 12. If you threw a movie theme party, describe how you would do it. The costumes, decorations, food, etc.

 I have given movie them parties on Facebook. I call it Dinner and a Movie. and have had different themes for different movies. Last year, we did The Easter Parade. We watched the movie together on TCM and commented. I had everyone to bring to our cyber table a food or drink to celebrate Easter. We had ham and baked sweet potatoes.  I made a coconut jelly bean cake. And I asked everyone to wear an Easter Hat. So at the end of the movie, everyone went for a stroll down 5th Avenue with Fred Astaire and Judy Garland singing "In your Easter bonnet with all the frills upon it". It was a lot of fun. We have also watched  "The Wizard of Oz" together and had a cyber table of country food: deviled eggs, baked sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, pork chops and strawberry short cake and tea to drink.  I dressed up like Dorothy in a jumper and started down the yellow brick road made out of poster board. lol.  "We're off to see the Wizard the wonderful Wizard of Oz".

Haha..awesome!

13. What are some films that are widely loved that you couldn't care less about?

 Jackie: Citizen Kane, Midnight Cowboy,The Godfather, On the Waterfront, Apocalypse Now, The Grapes of Wrath, Jaws. Horror films and anything that is real gory.

Me: Not a fan of Citizen Kane but the other films I have watched and liked..especially Jaws!

14. Who’s the biggest film fanatic that you know? Besides yourself of course.

 My brother-in-law loves movies. He could watch them all day.

15. And finally who are some of your favorite film characters?

Clarence the angel in "It's a Wonderful Life". "You had a wonderful life George." Eliza in My Fair Lady. From rags as a flower girl to riches dressed for the ball, Eliza stole our hearts. "I could of danced all night." Mr. Hobbs in Mr, Hobbs Takes a Vacation. I go into hysterics everytime I see him walking with his long legs bent, looking for birds. "What's that liitle fellow? "Barnswallows".

Proving to be worthy of their top rankings, a pair of number 1 and 2 seeds have now started their matches in the 50's era bracket. No. 1 Audrey Hepburn takes on No.2 Doris Day while No. 1 Grace Kelly takes on no. 2 Ava Gardner. Their rankings are for their respective categories in this era. Two Marquee Matches highlight 3rd round of 50's era bracket

The 3rd round of the favorite actress tourney is underway in all eras except for the 40's, where a tie-breaker question will decide the winner between Lauren Bacall and Ida Lupino. That runs till this evening. But over in the 50's era there are two top notch matches taking place. Audrey Hepburn vs Deborah Kerr and Grace Kelly vs Marilyn Monroe. How's that for some heavyweight matches. Hepburn and Kerr faced each other last year and Audrey won in a rout, 73-45. Will this year be different? We shall soon find out. And the other marquee match has Grace Kelly facing Marilyn Monroe for the very first time. They head into this match kind of differently. Grace crushed Gloria Grahame 57-11 while Marilyn held on to outlast Lana Turner 35-33. So these two matches could be very exciting...or blow-outs. I hope they turn out to be very competitive. 1950'S ERA Update

Kristen, who is hosting the 50's era portion of our favorite classic movie actress tourney just sent me an email with the current scores of the matches currently going on. They will run through Wednesday evening.

Due to an issue with the survey site Kristen used for the second set of matches of the first round in the 50's era bracket, she had to restart those matches. The Morning Movie: THE TUNNEL OF LOVE (1958)

As I was getting ready for work this morning, I caught some of The Tunnel Of Love on TCM. Part of Doris Day week, this cute little comedy co-starred Richard Widmark. Yes, Richard Widmark, more known for dramas and crime thrillers, he was in this little comedy with Doris. And guess what, he was pretty funny. The story from what I gathered invovles a couple (Day and Widmark) trying to adopt a baby. Through a series of misunderstandings, the wife thinks her husband is cheating on her and has another woman pregnant. Lots of confusion takes place in this movie, but it all works itself out by the end. I laughed quite a bit while watching it this morning. But now I need to see the first part, as I missed about 30 minutes of it.

Ginger handled Irene with a stunning comeback victory

In a match marked with controversy, Ginger Rogers sent defending champion Irene Dunne home after a blistering 50 point victory to the tune of 264-214. Setting records for most votes in a single match. Possibility of poll tampering was the talk of the day as something similar happened last year with the Irene Dunne/Carole Lombard match. But it couldn't be proved so the final numbers will stand. And in the other match, my girl Carole bested Myrna Loy in a hard fought battle 187-166. Wow! Mythical Monkey has addressed this situation and we hope that there was no foul play involved and that the rest of the tourney will be clean.

Top seed Doris Day made a late rally that fell 2 votes shy as she lost to the perky and scrappy Debbie Reynolds 71-69. Day, who was down by as many as 20 votes stormed back on Saturday to make this a match just ran out of time. In the other match Marilyn Monroe got shocked by Janet Leigh to the tune of 83-49. That was a thorough beating that I think no one saw coming.

One of last year's final four finalists, Natalie Wood had to make a charge on Saturday to overtake Jane Fonda and win 65-59. Believe it or not Wood was down at one point by 18 votes to Fonda. But showed her resilience and made a rally to win a much closer than expected match. And in the other match Ann-Margret danced her way around top seed Julie Andrews and won by 14 votes.

A prime match to decide the winner of the singers/dancers bracket for the 50’s era will be decided between No. 1 Doris Day and No. 2 Debbie Reynolds. I for one can’t wait to see how this will one will play out as I love both actresses. And both are experienced tourney players. Doris came within one match last year of going to the final four before losing to Natalie Wood in the 60’s era championship Final match. And Debbie went all the way to the 50’s era final match, only to lose to Grace Kelly. So this sets up to be an exciting match. Grace Kelly tops Audrey Hepburn for the second year in a row

 Grace raises a glass in celebration of her latest victory....

In what was another close match between the two iconic women, Grace edged out Audrey 58-54 in the third round of the 50's era Sophisticates Bracket of the favorite classic movie actress tourney. Grace defeated Audrey last year by the same margin of 4 votes as well. So it was deja vu for Audrey all over again. With this win, Grace moves on to round four and will face the winner of the Doris Day/Debbie Reynolds match, which begins later on tonight. I have to say this was one of the more exciting matches as Grace jumped out to an early lead on day one and had a 11 vote edge at one point before Audrey came storming back on day 2 to actually go ahead of Grace by 5 votes. And on today the two battled back and forth, as the lead changed hands several times. But in the end it was Princess Grace who came away with the win and continues on her run to make the final four for the second year in a row. Congrats to both women for putting on such an exciting match and thanks to everyone who stopped by to vote.

Talk about a dream matchup. No 1 Grace Kelly vs No 2 Audrey Hepburn in the Sophisticates Bracket Final Match in the 50's era. This is actually a rematch of last year's semi-final match in the 50's era between the two women. That time, Audrey was the top seed and Grace was seeded 4th. Grace ended up winning the match by 2 votes. So I imagine Audrey is looking for some payback. The match will begin later on tonight and run through Wednesday night. Should be one heck of a match. Marquee Matchup in the 50's Era: Audrey Hepburn vs Deborah Kerr

Just wanted to spotlight what is to be one of the most high profile matches in the tourney so far. In the 50's era being held on Noir & Chick Flicks, for the second round, we will have 2nd seed Audrey Hepburn taking on 3rd seed Deborah Kerr in the sophisticates bracket. My, oh my. It doesn't get any better than this. I know plenty of Audrey fans, and plenty of Deborah fans, so I think this will be a nail biter. Both actresses romped to an easy victory in their first round matches, but now must face each other. Tourney history has not been kind to Kerr. Last year she lost her first round match to a spunky Debbie Reynolds. Audrey had much better success, as she made it to the 50's era final, only to lose to eventual final four finalist Grace Kelly. And whoever wins this match most likely will have to face Grace again, provided Grace beats Sophia Loren. So I'm expecting a donnybrook of a match between Audrey and Deborah. 50's era of favorite Hitchcock film tournament begins

Widely regarded as Hitchcock's best decade comes the 50's round of the favorite Hitchcock film tournament. As I stated earlier I had to put North By Northwest into the 60's era as I just short a few films for the last decade. But that was the only way to have the even amount of films for this tournament.
