Glad to be back here in blogland....

Glad to be back....and so is Carole...

On my previous post about my upcoming Lombard Cup, my friends KC, Patti and Robin left comments asking where have I been and that it was great to see me back in blogland. It never occurred to me that I would have been missed during my brief time away from blogland since July. I have been using Facebook to concentrate on my All Good Thing page there and posting star of the week reviews, photos, videos, etc. And it has been fun doing stuff over there but now I am back with the upcoming Lombard Cup and then following that will be another tourney that me and Desiree will be doing together. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone that said such nice comments and have missed me. Glad to be back!

I just got an award....Blog Of The Year!

My very good friend Kristen from  journeysinclassicfilm.com has just awarded me Blog of the Year, which is very, very cool. We only met a year ago but became friends very quickly. All Good Things 2012 In Review

As 2012 comes to a close, I figure now would be a good time to look back at some of the highlights that took place here on All Good Things. I've broken things down by month. So let's get started with January.

Lauren Bacall kicked off the new year as my classic goddess of the month. I wrote a piece about the "H" letter films done by Paul Newman such as Hud, Harper and Cool Hand Luke. I started a new photo series called Tea Anyone, focusing on classic stars drinking or sharing their love of tea. Ginger wins it all

March Madness was back with my 2nd Annual Favorite Classic Movie Actress Tourney and it was much bigger. In fact I went from 64 contestants to 128. So large in fact I had to get help from two blogging buddies, Mythical Monkey and Desiree. By far my most ambitious project to date and one of the main posts yielded over 1200 views. April was a quiet month. Well compared to March. The iconic Greta Garbo was my goddess for the month. I finally got back to my Monties, my version of the Oscars with my 1945 edition. Christmas in Connecticut was the big winner. Anne Baxter

I started a blogathon called Cinematic Wold Tour, which used films as travel spots and locales. It ran all summer and I think it was successful enough to warrant it for a yearly occasion. OCTOBER

October proved to be a very busy month for me. First I had a new tourney going on, this one dedicated to the leading ladies of Alfred Hitchcock films. Grace Kelly finally snatched her first ever tourney trophy after coming so close twice before in my fave classic actress tourney. William Powell and Myrna Loy walked into my Hall of Fame. Team Classic put a beat down on Team Modern

My first annual Lombard Cup tourney began, pitting a team of classic era actors against modern era actors. Team Classic walloped those guys by the count of 16 and 1/2 points to 4 and 1/2 points. All in all, 2012 was a pretty good year in blogging for me. My pace from that record setting year in 2011 was way off. I only did 470 posts this year,compared to that mammoth 731 I did in 2011. Still it was my second best year ever, 100 more posts than the next closest year. I expect 2013 to be probably around that same mark of 400 + posts as I don't see me ever getting to that 700 plateau ever again. I would like to thank everyone who stopped by to check out my blog and I promise to keep things just as exciting in 2013.

A New Blog Everyone Should be following...

My friend over at The Golden Age of Hollywood has this wonderful blog called Une Cinephile. Her name is Christina. In her own words, she describes herself and her blog: I am une cinephile to every inch of the word. Ever since I was little I have always had a great love of movies. I started this blog to share my love for movies and what I have learned about them along the way. Classic movies are a passion of mine, what they can teach us today about the times they were made in amazes me.I find classic movies to be made with such care and quality that is highly missing today. A Little Observation

This post I’m writing about today is not about a favorite classic film or a birthday shout out or about a classic movie goddess. Just something I noticed in a few films I recently watched that kind of irked me  a bit. Don’t take this as rant or anything like that. Just an observation. One that as a blogger now, I kind of took immediate response to. Two new films, Life As We Know It and Larry Crowne, which I both liked had some dialogue that took aim at blogging in general.

So Josh, you don't care for bloggers I take it?

In Life As We Know It, Katherine Heigl stars as a young woman who is thrust into raising a child after being named a godparent when tragedy strikes the  actual parents of said child. Well she and another friend of the couple meet years before this happens and go out on a blind date. He is played by Josh Duhamel. And they do not hit it off when first meeting. And he cracks….”look this isn’t going to work. So why don’t you go back to your home, this being a Saturday night and do your little blog thing. You strike me as the type that has a blog. And I will go out and meet another girl and have some fun”. What the hell? As a blogger maybe I was a little too sensitive to that kind of remark.

So I put it aside and enjoyed the rest of the movie. Then I watched Larry Crowne the other day, the pairing of Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, which I also liked. The scene where Julia’s husband is a novelist who hasn’t written anything in years and stays home to surf the web watching porn but says he is blogging and posting. Julia slams him and says you’re not blogging or working, you’re commenting, big difference.That scene was not a direct hit on blogging so it’s was not too bad. It just shows bloggers because of this one guy, in a bad light. But in Life as We Know It, that was definitely a strike on blogging. Just wanted to see what everyone else thought about it. Maybe I’m being over sensitive. I just think because now I am blogging I do pick up things like that much more.  Like I said this shouldn’t be taken as a rant, but as an observation.

All Good Things 2011 Year In Review

JANUARY

Anne Francis

The year started off with some sad news as veteran actress Anne Francis passed away. I spotlighted her with a little memorial. The classic movie goddess that kicked off the new
year was Jeanne Crain. I started a new series comparing classic screen stars with their modern counterparts called From The Past To Now. The first post featured Jimmy Stewart and Tom Hanks. My series Box Office Attractions, spotlighted Sidney Poitier and his phenomenal year of 1967. And I did reviews of Penny Serenade and China Seas to name a few.

FEBRUARY

Cary and Irene

Ah, the month of love. And who better to be my classic movie goddess than Scarlett O'Hara..Vivien Leigh. Me and my co-blogger and friend Dawn combined our blogs to craft a series that focused on great Hollywood screen couples. I did posts on Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland; Cary Grant and Irene Dunne, on my blog. And then several more on Dawn's blog, Noir and Chick Flicks. I did a top 10 list of my favorite romantic films of all time. And From the Past to Now compared Vivien Leigh and Keira Knightley.

MARCH

March Madness begins....

This was the start of something very cool on my blog. My first ever Favorite Classic Actress Tournament. I gathered up 64 of the top actresses across four decades: the 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's to create what everyone thought was a fun and enjoyable tourney. The eventual winner turned out to be Irene Dunne, my second favorite actress of all time. And guess what the tournament will return this March, but this time expanded to 128 women. Should be even more fun than the first time. Not to overshadow my classic movie goddess of the month, I wrote several posts about the wonderful Carole Lombard. The first be my guest of the year was my friend and co-worker Lorie. I did a memorial for the legendary Elizabeth Taylor who passed away this month. And I did reviews of Giant and Princess O'Rourke.

APRIL

Samantha, Darrin and Endora

My guest for the month was Amanda from A Noodle In A Haystack. Two goddesses shared this month as Betty  Grable and Sharon Farrell graced my blog in the first ever pairing of two classic film actresses. I did a cross-over with Dawn and Irene (And Then They Start To Sparkle) called Beware These Women, which focused on some of the most compelling female characters ever captured on film. I did several posts on TV's Greatest Comedies, including The Addams Family, Bewitched and The Brady Bunch. I also received a Stylish Blogger award from my friend Patti of And They Don't Make Em Like They Use To.

MAY

Lee Remick was my classic movie goddess for the month. I wrote a fictional interview about the legendary Audrey Hepburn. My guest of the month was Audrey of Fedoras and High Heels. TV's greatest comedies posts included That Girl and Fawlty Towers. And my friend Irene hosted All Good Things for about a week while I was on vacation in New Orleans. Thanks bunches Irene. And I also started posting about Liz Taylor's problematic love life and all 8 marriages.

JUNE

Cary Grant

Well fair is fair as the men's tournament got underway this month after the success the women's tourney had back in March. Without a doubt Cary Grant walked away with honors of favorite classic actor. Irene of And Then They Start To Sparkle was the guest of the month. Doris Day was my classic movie goddess of the month. TV's greatest comedies posting on Laverne & Shirley.

JULY

Olivia and friend

A birthday celebration in honor of Olivia de Havilland who also happened to be my classic movie goddess for the month. Love it when things like that work out so well. It was so great having Irene as my guest last month, that she stayed over another month. Helped me out because my original guest could not do it. Thanks Irene. I wrote a few pieces on the 1960's, which is my second most favorite decade ever, right behind the 30's. And I kicked off the Monties (my version of the Oscars) with posts on the years 1934, 1935, and 1936.

AUGUST

Constance Bennett helped kick off At The Beach

Esther Williams was my movie goddess of the month. And I got a little help from Dawn to celebrate that occasion. I started a new photo series called At The Beach, which showcased classic film stars hanging out at the beach. I served up more Monties for the years 1937, 1938 and 1939.  And did a new post for my Grace Kelly series, If It's Tuesday Then It Must Be Grace Kelly.

SEPTEMBER

Shirley Jones

My friend from Facebook, Janine Wild was my guest of the month. Shirley Jones was my classic movie goddess of the month. And I did another tournament, this time about musicals. I staged it over at Dawn's blog, Singin and Dancing Back In Time. I posted updates here on my blog and the eventual winner would be Singin in the Rain. And I did more Monties, this time for 1940 and 1941.

OCTOBER

Rear Window is named Favorite Hitchcock film on All Good Things

Just as summer winded down and my At The Beach series came to an end, I started a new series caelld The Fall Series, showcasing classic stars in fall/winter attire. My annual Classic Horror Films Fest returned, and this time I had help from the wonderful Irene Palfy. My classic movie goddess of the month was none other than Irene Dunne, who had a heck of a  year on All Good Things. My guest for the month was appropriately enough Renata, who is the biggest Irene Dunne fan I know.  And I started a new series of matches called Classic Stars Match Play which pitted stars who didn't meet up in my tournaments. Such as Bette Davis vs Joan Crawford and John Wayne vs Gary Cooper. Oh and yet another tournament in the form of Favorite Alfred Hitchcock film where the eventual winner would be Rear Window.

NOVEMBER

The English Rose, Deborah Kerr

The English rose, Deborah Kerr was my classic movie goddess of the month. My good friend Desiree was my guest of the month. From The Past to Now compared Grace Kelly and Gwyneth Paltrow. I started posted Pawsome Pet Pictures, featuring classic stars with animals. And Thursdays became drama filled as I posted short reviews on similar themed films. One week it was military dramas and one week it was cop dramas. And so on.

DECEMBER

Simply Audrey

2011  has come to a close with a rather festive month. Audrey Hepburn finally graced my blog as the classic movie goddess. My guest was Clara of Via Margutta 51. Holiday Cheer was a series of pics depicting classic starts in the holiday mood. I posted the top 12 stars of All Good Things, and surprise, it was Irene Dunne. I continued on with the Monties, Classic Star Match Play and all the assorted goodies everyone is accustomed to here on All Good Things.

And now as we say bye to this year, we look ahead to the new year which I promise to be as good as this year was, if not better. I'll try anyway.

2012 Preview for ALL GOOD THINGS

Yep...Monty has asked me to be one of his classic movie goddesses! YAY!

I think 2012 is poised to be a great year for my blog. Well I hope it will. Just wanted to highlight some of the things I will be doing once the new year rings in. Some notable actresses who will be the classic movie goddesses in 2012 include Lauren Bacall, Rita Hayworth, Anne Baxter, Joan Crawford and Greta Garbo. I will have some distinguished guests in the form of Emily from The Silver Screen Affair, Becky of Classic Becky's Brain Food and Alicia Garbo of British Beauties. And plenty more friends and bloggers showing up this year. My yearly favorite Classic Film Actress tourney returns with a bigger and bolder tournament. It goes from 64 to 128 contestants, spread out over 4 blogs. Helping me will be John of Mythical Monkey (who handles the 30’s portion) and Desiree of Rosalind Russell (who handles the 40’s portion). I will take care of the 50’s and 60’s on my blog All Good Things and Noir and Chick Flicks (thanks Dawn for allowing me to hold part of the tournament there). I will continue with the weekly classic stars match play as well, which has proven to be fun. And of course the usual film reviews, theme picture series (At The Beach), Classic Horror Movie Festival, From Then To Now, If It’s Tuesday Then It Must Be Grace Kelly, and so much more.

And I hope to do some spotlights on actors too. Up first will be William Holden (that will make Patti happy). So expect good things in 2012 here on All Good Things. Meanwhile over on my other blog, Screwball Cinema, I know I have kind of slacked off over there, but I promise to get things fired up and going again. I’m thinking about doing a tournament over there, sometime in the summer. And doing more reviews as well. So here’s to a great year not just for me and my blogs, but for everyone else too and that we all have just an amazing time!

A Blog Everyone Should Be Following: Musings Of A Morleysaurus

Jennifer Cooper writes one of the coolest blogs out there in blogland called Musings of a Morleysaurus. She hails from Arbroath, Angus in good old Scotland. She is a self-proclaimed horror nerd and is proud of it. She is a great supporter of indie films and women produced/directed films. Her blog focuses on mainly horror but she also stretches out to include other genres and even dabbles in the classics. She loves Grace Kelly and His Girl Friday to name just some of her favorites. Her recent posts include a 30 day horror movie challenge: A Favorite Classic Horror Movie - The Creature From The Black Lagoon. Oh she is also a fan of such series as Luther, The X-Files, and Sons of Anarchy. I recently started following her terrific blog and I enjoy immensely. 1. I like to draw. Well I used to. Haven't did it in years. Used to do it all the time. May get back into eventually.

3. My black lab's name is Lucy. Her full name though is Lucy Lawless. That's right named after Xena.

4. When I was in the military I was stationed in this small town in Germany called Worms. Yep, that's the actual name of the town, no kidding.

5. I love spaghetti. It's my favorite dish.

6. I am a major geek. When I talk about things like comic books and movies, my voice tends to get higher and higher. By the time I am done talking about whatever subject, you will be thinking you have been listening to a teen-age girl.

7. And finally I tend to daydream a lot..still to this day. I can easily space out just like that.

And Then They Start To Sparkle - Irene is one of my best friends period. She is a fun loving German gal who I constantly talk with about movies and stuff. She filled in on my blog when I was on vacation for a week back in May and I've since joined her blog as a contributor. One of the many good things about Irene is her divine sense of humor. You can read it in her wonderful posts on her very cool blog. Plus she has an awesome taste in fashion. And loves her two cats Mina and Lucy with all her heart. So Irene definitely deserves this so sweet award.

And...scene! - Sarah  was one of the first blogs I started following once I started blogging almost two years ago. Her blog is just cool to read as she has wonderful tastes in classic films and stars. And she appears to love fishing and is an avid wine connoisseur.

They Don't Make 'Em Like They Use To - I recently came across this blog a few months ago and fell in love with Patti's style. I love reading her spot on reviews. And I love her passion she has for her top two guys..William Holden and Gary Cooper. And she is so right with her blog title..they don't make 'em like they use to. And she is devoted entirely to her wonderful family. Nice to have Patti as a friend of mine.

Blonde Episodes - I've met Kori almost immediately once I started blogging. She writes the wonderful blog, Blonde Episodes and I am one of her few male followers. It's a very cool blog as she concentrates on fashion, movies, books..pretty much everything. I even wrote a guest post for her awhile back and had a wonderful time. You will have a great time at Blonde Episodes.

Noir and Chick Flicks - Where to begin? Dawn was the first person I met through blogging and we hit it off so well that she invited to me to contribute to several of her blogs. Yes, Dawn writes several amazing blogs. Counting Noir and Chick Flicks, she also does Esther Williams, Doris Day, Saddles and Spurs, and Singin and Dancin' Thru Time. I'm glad to be part of all these terrific blogs and truly amazed at the amount of work Dawn does every single day.

Motion Picture Gems - My buddy Tom has been a big help to me and my blog. When I started my box office attractions series, his knowledge of the history of the box office films and stars helped me out quite a bit. His blog is all so cool too, a perfect trip back in time.

The Girl With The White Parasol - Talk about this being perfect timing. As I was writing this, I received an award from Rachel herself.  So evidently we were thinking of each other at the same time. Very cool. Her blog is one of my favorites to read. Very classy and very inventive. Some of her more recent posts include: 5 Movie Costumes I Love and Tough Guy Names. How's that for originality.

Fedoras And High Heels - With an emphasis on fashion and culture in classic movies and TV, my girl Audrey has managed to create one fabulous blog. Don't believe me, just check it out. You won't be disappointed. Anyone that puts Jean Arthur as their blog header is OK in my book.

Kristin Creative - I came across Kristin's blog one day by accident and was glad I did. She is insanely talented, juggling her many different passions in writing, photography and all around crafter. And plus she is a recent fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Oh yeah Kristin is a good egg. You see I watch way too many screwball comedies and I tend to drop that line quite a bit. But please if you are not following Kristin's blog, please check it out.

Lily Lemontree - Lily was one of my first bloggers to be my guest on my blog and she made quite the impact on me. Her blog reads "reviving the charming arts", which she does with flair and grace week in and week out. It's a wonderful mix of classic Hollywood style with the modern stars of today. Always an entertaining read. And you have to love the name..Lily Lemontree.

The Silver Screen Affair - My friend Emily just started her awesome blog this year and already has cranked out well over 100 posts. She is very prolific and her blog is always fun and interesting to read. And I am happy to say that more followers are starting to figure that out as her followers keep rising and rising.

Spectacular Cinema: From The Classics and Into The Beyond - Kalli is one of my most ardent followers as she frequently visits and always leaves a comment. Her blog is a smashing mix of classic and modern films. Case in point, her two most recent posts range from the 1991 film My Own Private Idaho to the her previous post about the 1955 film noir classic Rififi. Wow. And one of her favorite actors is Cary Grant. Nuff said!

So there you have it, 12 of my best friends in the blogging world and my world. I know there are lots more friends that I wish I could have given this award too, but there was a limit. But rest assured, anyone that I didn't mention, you guys are still awesome and I will hopefully get to you the next time around.
