I just got an award....Blog Of The Year!

My very good friend Kristen from  journeysinclassicfilm.com has just awarded me Blog of the Year, which is very, very cool. We only met a year ago but became friends very quickly. I am honored that she thought of me when choosing blogs worthy of such a major award. And now I get to pass it along to other worthy blogs I feel so deserving as well.

1.)  classicmoviesnippets better known as They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To, by Patti, who is one of my best friends. We met through blogging and her blog is a treat, filled with such wonderful reviews. There have been many films I have watched because of her and her reviews. She even has been nice enough to send me movies through the mail of ones I have missed on TCM and she had recorded. What a friend. And she also supports my college football team as much as possible, The Georgia Bulldogs, and I too support hers, Boise State Broncos. She is a true great friend.

2.)  aclassicmovieblog.com, by KC who lets us all know without fail, our classic stars birthdays. And KC also shares links of other happenings in blogland from blogs we might not know about and events or things of note they should not miss. Thank you KC for all you do.

3.)  mythicalmonkey, by my friend John, who not only writes one hell of a blog, but also helps me with my annual Favorite Classic Film Actress Tournament every March. What a pal!

4.)  journeysinclassicfilm, and I'm returning the favor by giving this same award back to Kristen.  I mean she does do a really wonderful job on her blog. No question about it.

THE RULES:

  1. Select another blog or other blogs who deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award;
  2. Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen – there’s no minimum or maximum number of blogs required – and ‘present’ them with their award;
  3. Include a link back to the page that noted yours as “Blog of the Year” and provide these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alter the rules or the badges!)
  4. Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them
  5. You can now also join our Facebook group – click ‘like’ on this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award Facebook group and then you can share your blog with an even wider audience
  6. As a winner of the award – please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award – and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars…
There are stars to collect! Yes, there are stars to collect!
Unlike other awards which you can only add to your blog once – this award is different!
When you begin you will receive the 1 star award, and every time you are given the award by another blog, you can add another star! There are total of 6 stars to collect.
You can check out your favorite blogs, and even if they have already been given the award by someone else, you can still award them again and help them to reach the maximum 6 stars!

Thank you Sophie and John

I want to thank Sophie of Waitin On A Sunny Day and John of Mythical Monkey for giving me this award, the 7 x 7 Link Award.

Now, according to the rules, I have to:

  • Tell everyone something that no one else knows about
  • Link to one of my posts that I personally think best fits the following categories: Most Beautiful Piece, Most Helpful Piece, Most Popular Piece, Most Controversial Piece, Most Surprisingly Successful Piece, Most Underrated Piece, and Most Pride-worthy Piece
  • Pass this award on to seven other bloggers

Something that no one else knows about: Ummm...let me see, something no one else knows...the only thing I can think of is..that I can't swim. Yeah, after all these years, still can't swim.

Most Beautiful Piece: I would have to say this post about my girl Carole Lombard... why-carole-lombard-is-my-favorite actress. Why she means so much to me.

Most Helpful Piece: Don't know how helpful this is but I love doing my series, A Blog Everyone Should be following. Where I spotlight a newer blog just getting it's start. I know how hard it is to attract readers when you first start so I try my best to spread the word. new-blog-everyone-should-be-following

Most Popular Piece: Surprisingly it's a piece on a more modern film. It's from my annual series that focus on fun summer movies and it has been viewed nearly 4,200 times. It's Animal House. Yeah I'm kinda shocked by that too! But hey it's a funny movie. fun-summer-movies-national-lampoons-animal house. And I had a great time writing it.

Most Controversial Piece: I really can't think of any controversial post I have done here on my blog. I mean the only issue I may have caused was when a person from another country called me out and said my blog was too "American". That there are a lot more films made outside of America. Which is true but in my defense I have seen a lot more American films than any other country. So that's why my blog is filled with them.

Most Surprisingly Successful Piece: Just a single photo..but it generated a lot of hits. It's a good one, no argument from me. That's why I posted it. i-love-this-doris-day-photo

Most Underrated Piece: Probably the piece I did about Sidney Poitier's work in these two films, The Blackboard Jungle and To Sir With Love. I kind of wrote from the heart on that one but I think I was the only one who may have saw and read it. Well with the exception of one Miss Irene Palfy, who I thank immensely! But it's cool. sidney-poitier-goes-from-juvenile to teacher

Most Pride-worthy Piece: I guess that would be my classic actress tournaments I have been putting on. I am very proud of them and they seem to be enjoyed by lots of people. So I will keep them doing them until someone says..Monty, please stop with these things already! classic-movie-actress-tournament

Now I have to tag 7 bloggers. I will try not to retag anybody as best I can.

I JUST GOT NOMINATED FOR AN IRRESISTIBLY SWEET BLOG AWARD! How cool is that....

Thanks to Jennifer over at Musings of a Morleysaurus (a totally cool and wicked blog btw)for nominating me for The Irresistibly Sweet Blog Award! Here is the link to Jenn's awesome blog...
http://morleysaurus.blogspot.com/?zx=e183353a36d5e491

Here are the rules:

1) Thank and link to the person who nominated you.

2) Share 7 random facts about yourself.

3) Pass the award to 12 of your blogging buddies.

4) Notify the recipients

7 Random facts about me:

1. I like to draw. Well I used to. Haven't did it in years. Used to do it all the time. May get back into eventually.

2. My favorite X-Man is Rogue (well the comic book version anyway). She is awesome. And yes I know Wolverine is the man but I love Rogue.

3. My black lab's name is Lucy. Her full name though is Lucy Lawless. That's right named after Xena.

4. When I was in the military I was stationed in this small town in Germany called Worms. Yep, that's the actual name of the town, no kidding.

5. I love spaghetti. It's my favorite dish.

6. I am a major geek. When I talk about things like comic books and movies, my voice tends to get higher and higher. By the time I am done talking about whatever subject, you will be thinking you have been listening to a teen-age girl.

7. And finally I tend to daydream a lot..still to this day. I can easily space out just like that.

So with those 7 random facts about me out of the way, onto the 12 people I have chosen to give this sweet blog award to. Maestro, a little music if you please....

And Then They Start To Sparkle - Irene is one of my best friends period. She is a fun loving German gal who I constantly talk with about movies and stuff. She filled in on my blog when I was on vacation for a week back in May and I've since joined her blog as a contributor. One of the many good things about Irene is her divine sense of humor. You can read it in her wonderful posts on her very cool blog. Plus she has an awesome taste in fashion. And loves her two cats Mina and Lucy with all her heart. So Irene definitely deserves this so sweet award.

And...scene! - Sarah  was one of the first blogs I started following once I started blogging almost two years ago. Her blog is just cool to read as she has wonderful tastes in classic films and stars. And she appears to love fishing and is an avid wine connoisseur.

They Don't Make 'Em Like They Use To - I recently came across this blog a few months ago and fell in love with Patti's style. I love reading her spot on reviews. And I love her passion she has for her top two guys..William Holden and Gary Cooper. And she is so right with her blog title..they don't make 'em like they use to. And she is devoted entirely to her wonderful family. Nice to have Patti as a friend of mine.

Blonde Episodes - I've met Kori almost immediately once I started blogging. She writes the wonderful blog, Blonde Episodes and I am one of her few male followers. It's a very cool blog as she concentrates on fashion, movies, books..pretty much everything. I even wrote a guest post for her awhile back and had a wonderful time. You will have a great time at Blonde Episodes.

Noir and Chick Flicks - Where to begin? Dawn was the first person I met through blogging and we hit it off so well that she invited to me to contribute to several of her blogs. Yes, Dawn writes several amazing blogs. Counting Noir and Chick Flicks, she also does Esther Williams, Doris Day, Saddles and Spurs, and Singin and Dancin' Thru Time. I'm glad to be part of all these terrific blogs and truly amazed at the amount of work Dawn does every single day.

Motion Picture Gems - My buddy Tom has been a big help to me and my blog. When I started my box office attractions series, his knowledge of the history of the box office films and stars helped me out quite a bit. His blog is all so cool too, a perfect trip back in time.

The Girl With The White Parasol - Talk about this being perfect timing. As I was writing this, I received an award from Rachel herself.  So evidently we were thinking of each other at the same time. Very cool. Her blog is one of my favorites to read. Very classy and very inventive. Some of her more recent posts include: 5 Movie Costumes I Love and Tough Guy Names. How's that for originality.

Fedoras And High Heels - With an emphasis on fashion and culture in classic movies and TV, my girl Audrey has managed to create one fabulous blog. Don't believe me, just check it out. You won't be disappointed. Anyone that puts Jean Arthur as their blog header is OK in my book.

Kristin Creative - I came across Kristin's blog one day by accident and was glad I did. She is insanely talented, juggling her many different passions in writing, photography and all around crafter. And plus she is a recent fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Oh yeah Kristin is a good egg. You see I watch way too many screwball comedies and I tend to drop that line quite a bit. But please if you are not following Kristin's blog, please check it out.

Lily Lemontree - Lily was one of my first bloggers to be my guest on my blog and she made quite the impact on me. Her blog reads "reviving the charming arts", which she does with flair and grace week in and week out. It's a wonderful mix of classic Hollywood style with the modern stars of today. Always an entertaining read. And you have to love the name..Lily Lemontree.

The Silver Screen Affair - My friend Emily just started her awesome blog this year and already has cranked out well over 100 posts. She is very prolific and her blog is always fun and interesting to read. And I am happy to say that more followers are starting to figure that out as her followers keep rising and rising.

Spectacular Cinema: From The Classics and Into The Beyond - Kalli is one of my most ardent followers as she frequently visits and always leaves a comment. Her blog is a smashing mix of classic and modern films. Case in point, her two most recent posts range from the 1991 film My Own Private Idaho to the her previous post about the 1955 film noir classic Rififi. Wow. And one of her favorite actors is Cary Grant. Nuff said!

So there you have it, 12 of my best friends in the blogging world and my world. I know there are lots more friends that I wish I could have given this award too, but there was a limit. But rest assured, anyone that I didn't mention, you guys are still awesome and I will hopefully get to you the next time around.

Once again thank you Jennifer for my award..I really appreciate it. I didnt know if I was supposed to nominate you for an award as well and if I did, I apologize. But the next award that comes along, trust me you will be at the top of the list.

#1 FAN AWARD OF THE MONTH GOES TO....

#1 FAN AWARD OF THE MONTH GOES TO....
Since so many of my friends and other bloggers comment on my blog on a regular basis, I wanted to honor the person who made the most comments. Nothing more than this little award but at least it's some kind of recognition. I know how busy everyone can get, so to take the time to not only read my posts but to regularly comment on them is a great achievement and I certainly do appreciate all the feedback and wonderful responses. So I will list the top 5 people who made the most comments in the previous month, which for this second award will be the month of May. So here we go, starting with no 5.

5. AUDREY (FEDORAS AND HIGH HEELS - 8 COMMENTS) Audrey happened to be my guest of the month during this month and she also managed to stop by to make some comments on my other posts. What a trooper.

4. PATTI (AND THEY DON'T MAKE THEM LIKE THEY USE TO -9 COMMENTS) Patti moved up a spot from last month as she was no. 5 then. Thanks Patti for being a frequent commenter.

So I will list the top 5 people who made the most comments in the previous month, which for this first award will be the month of April. So here we go, starting with no 5.

Thanks Dawn.

3. TOM (MOTION PICTURE GEMS - 13 Comments)Tom has actually been a big help on my blog as his box-office data has been instrumental in my box office attraction posts. I met Tom over on The Golden Age of Hollywood last year and we've been friends ever since.

I thought the direction by the Coen brothers was top notch and and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld giving Aterrific performance. And a rousing music score all add up to 4 wins. Leonardo DiCaprio won Best Actor for his amazing turn in Inception. Two easy choices came in the best supporting categories with Christian Bale giving a stellar performance in The Fighter and Chloe Moretz stealing every scene in the best comic book movie of the year to me, Kick-Ass. And I gave the final award of visual effects to Inception which blew everyone else away. So those are my favorites of 2010 and I can't wait to see who wins at this year Oscars. I hope they show some love to True Grit.
