ANNE FRANCIS on TCM today

Yesterday it was Carole Lombard, now it's Anne Francis. My god TCM knows what makes my day. Some choice Anne films that will be shown include Bad Day At Black Rock (1955) with Spencer Tracy; Susan Slept Here (1954) with Debbie Reynolds and Dick Powell with Anne looking all so stunning; Blackboard Jungle (1955) with Glenn Ford and Sidney Poitier; and of course the sci-fi classic Forbidden Planet (1956). Looking forward to it.

SPENDING THE EVENING WITH LUCY....

In honor of her birthday and coinciding with Summer Under The Stars, TCM has dedicated 24 hours of nothing but films starring Lucille Ball. I missed most of them that aired today but plan to catch some tonight. Beginning with one of my all time favorite films, Stage Door (1937) at 8 pm. Now I own this film and have seen it dozens of time but can easily watch it again. Lucy's part is a gem as she and Eve Arden get to say all the wise-cracks either of them could ever want. Katherine Hepburn and Ginger Rogers may be the bigger stars in the film but Lucy does not go un-noticed. Later on is Easy To Wed (1946), the remake of Libeled Lady and co-stars Esther Williams and Van Johnson. I have never seen this film but my good friend Dawn is always telling me about it. So I definitely want to watch this one. And then for a nightcap, is the double bill of the two screwball films Lucy did about a starlet named Annabel whose agent (Jack Oakie) constantly puts her through one hilarious publicity stunt after another. So my night is filled as I plan to spend time with a certain redhead.

Summer Under The Stars - Lee Remick August 26th on TCM

Another of my favorites, Lee Remick gets her day on TCM with several note-worthy films. They include The Wheeler Dealers, A Face In The Crowd, Telefon, Days Of Wine and Roses, Experiment in Terror and Anatomy of a Murder.

Summer Under The Stars - Elizabeth Taylor August 23rd on TCM

One of my favorite actresses gets her day on TCM's Summer Under The Stars today. It's weird too because I just did a post comparing Liz's Butterfield 8 to Audrey Hepburn's Breakfast at Tiffany's. And TCM has Butterfield 8 on the schedule for 6pm. How cool is that? Other Liz films to be shown include Lassie Come Home, National Velvet, A Place In The Sun, Father of the Bride and Raintree Country among others. So check out Liz today for one of her films.

Summer Under The Stars on TCM - Kathryn Grayson on August 10th

I was a little miffed when TCM didn't honor Kathryn Grayson when she passed away back in February. So color me excited now that they are finally showcasing Ms. Grayson for the entire day of August 10th. Some of the films being shown are It Happened in Brooklyn, Two Sisters From Boston, Anchors Aweigh, Show Boat, and my favorite of hers, Kiss Me Kate.

Summer Under The Stars - Steve McQueen August 3rd on TCM

The king of cool is on display today on TCM as part of their summer under the stars. Steve McQueen, a true movie icon, will be featured all day long in such classics like Nevada Smith, The Magnificent Seven, Never So Few, The Cincinnati Kid and of course Bullitt. Enjoy.

Summer Under The Stars on TCM - Julie Christie on August 2nd

TCM just kicked off it's annual Summer Under The Stars festival today with Basil Rathbone. For anyone new to this, TCM selects 31 actors and actresses for the month of August and for each day chooses a specific actor and plays nothing but their movies all day long. This is the 8th edition of this very popular theme that has continued to grow and grow. I will pick and choose at random some of the stars that will be featured this month and chose actress Julie Christie to get things started. Julie is of course most famous for her role as Lara in the classic film Doctor Zhivago. That film will be played along with Far From The Madding Crowd (1967), Billy Liar (1963), Darling (1965), Shampoo (1975), and others.
